Welcome to the website of Take a Stitch 2 Durham. We are an independent stitch group brought together by our love of stitched textiles, whether that be in traditional embroidery or contemporary works with mixed media. We hope you will enjoy browsing our website to see examples of our stitching, exhibitions and collaborative projects within the community.
Our 2023 Exhibition, Fragments from History has now closed...

More information and images of works can be seen on the Gallery of Works page.
Below is a short slideshow featuring recent works from one of our members. We hope this inspires you to take up the needle and explore the wonderful world of decorated textiles.
Our current stitcher is Jane.
Jane has many talents when it comes to creative textiles and stitching. Jane’s love of textiles goes back many years and as with most of us, lots of projects remained unfinished during the years of work. Jane not only loves hand stitch, but is also an experienced lace maker and quilter, she also like to get messy with eco dyeing to create unique background fabrics for her work. Jane participated in several free online projects during lockdown. These inlcuded the 52tags and sew4thesoul book from Anne Brooke, and the Squash Squad from Sue Spargo. With an interest in botany, Jane is strongly influenced by the natural world; plants, flowers and animals often feature in her work. Her favourite textile artists include Sue Spargo, Anja Townrow, Yoko Saito and Edyta Sidar. Jane loves colour and texture and her fabric stash includes rather a lot of ‘Liberty’ and ‘Tilda’ fabrics. Once retired Jane’s ambition was to finish all her UFOs and take on lots more new projects… One of the oldest UFOs recently completed is a magnificent Lace table cloth.
We have created a gallery page of some of Jane’s beautiful work so you can pause on each piece of work and read its creative story.
