Welcome to the website of Take a Stitch 2 Durham. We are an independent stitch group brought together by our love of stitched textiles, whether that be in traditional embroidery or contemporary works with mixed media. We hope you will enjoy browsing our website to see examples of our stitching, exhibitions and collaborative projects within the community.

Group project of tiles inspired by architecture at Ushaw Historic House
(on permanent display at Ushaw Historic House, Durham)
|
We encourage our members to pick up the needle and stitch together throughout the year. We are currently working on a new group project for Ushaw Historic House based on the colourful display of the early summer garden. We also create an annual display for the Festival of Trees at Ushaw House. Click here to view the gallery page of our recent display of angels.
Many of our members work on larger individual projects that take many months to complete. We also create small pieces of work to swap with each other via Travelling Books. A selection of these postcard sized pieces can be viewed on this gallery page.
Below is a short slideshow featuring recent works from one of our members. We hope this inspires you to take up the needle and explore the wonderful world of decorated textiles.
Our current featured stitcher is Joanna .
If you like colour, if you like texture, if you like being wowed, you will love Joanna's work. It's a joy to have Joanna on your table at TAS, she always has a gorgeous palette of co-ordinated threads and fabrics set out in front of her. We love watching how her delicious experimental works of art progress from simple base layers of fabrics, building up through layers of embellishments and finally, sumptuous textured stitches. Think voluptuous suffolk puffs, perfectly pointed hexagons, bound rings, the widest rickrack you have ever seen, beautiful lace, beads, buttons and then an abundance of bullions knots, french knots, pistil stitch and so much more...
