Archives of Members' Work

This page has links to the galleries of work completed by members of Durham City Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild from 2011 to 2020.

The galleries include a selection of works from community projects, exhibitions that were based on a given theme, and others are a collection from travelling books, workshops or monthly 'show and tell' sessions.

You can read a short history of the Branch here.

Leading up to the celebration of the 25th anniversary, members of the branch created a stitched panel depicting an iconic image from Durham, Browns' boathouse with Elvet Bridge and the Castle behind it. The original photo (taken by member Sarah Dodds), was the winner of the photo competition in 2019.

A PDf document with details of the stitched squares can be viewed from here.

The finished panel

The Embroiderers' Guild produced an e-book to describe the working of the panel. The book contains individual images of each of the 48 squares that make up the panel. You can read it here from their flipsnack site.

Several members took part in the 'Reasons to be Thankful' project organised by the Embroiderers' Guild in 2020. Part 1 of the e-book can be read from here on their flipsnack site.

During the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic regular meetings and workshops were cancelled, as was the 25th Anniversary exhibition. The 2020 Stitching Inspirations gallery page shows some of the works shared with each other before the Branch was forced to close by the actions of the Embroiderers' Guild UK.

All images in the galleries are reproduced with permission of the owner/maker and are copyright. We have tried to include sources of named artists who inspired these works, if we have missed a citation, please let us know and help attribute work to artists correctly.
